Change Of Pace (transition) At A Marker

I like to see the first step of the new pace as the RIDER passes the marker, not the horse’s head, shoulder or quarters. If the transition is allowed to be progressive then you must begin BEFORE reaching the marker.

Where a movement requires extended or medium canter followed by a transition to collected trot, some collection should be shown just before the transition.

Let me try to explain just how important this is….

In Intro, Prelim, Novice and Elems the movements are quite long, that it there’s quite a lot in them. If I have you on a ‘between 6.5 and 7’ for a particular movement and then, the last transition is absolutely spot on then I'm very likely to go for a 7 instead of a 6.5. Conversely, If I have you on a ‘between 6.5 and 7’ for a particular movement and then, the last transition is a little late then I'm very likely to go for a 6.5. So think about it, that's A LOT of extra marks.

So, ride deep corners well, and be precise with your transitions and move all your undecided half marks upwards. Be assured that if you do it’ll help!
