Movements 8 & 9 in BE 95
I judged BE 95 yesterday at Keysoe and LOTS of competitors made this accuracy error. The class didn’t turn out to be a dressage competition as time cross country played a big role BUT if it had then there’d be 60+% of competitors kicking themselves for making this basic mistake. There are no corners...

Is your horse's frame allowed to be a little too long in a test?
"Calm and regular test with horse trying hard to please. Needing to be a little rounder in outline with hocks coming under further to achieve a 'supple throughness' and self carriage. With minor adjustments of more connection and forward desire the performance would be more attractive and engag...

Importance of even foot flight infront and behind.
Ensure that the hind legs are as elevated as the front legs in your mediums and extended trot too. The angle of the front and hind legs needs to be parallel.
Us dressage judges are taught to penalise movements where the angle is not parallel (usually the front legs higher than the hind legs).

Using 'Soft Eyes' is a technique that will undoubtedly improve your riding AND your marks!!
The ability to use 'soft eyes' at will is a special tool in your inventory of riding skills that, when mastered, will alter your instinctive reactions in a way that’s totally productive for your horse’s way of going. I spent many hours implementing this consciously in all facets of my training and c...

Get used to riding deep corners when you school!!
Ensure you keep the rhythm, balance and momentum in each corner, so make them easy to begin with, then push the buckets more into the corners as you improve.
I LOVE seeing competitors riding deep corners <3

Improving your centre line marks
If you’ve 8 buckets, then this will help you measure your ‘swoop’ as you come up the centre line. So many tests over-shoot or under-cut the centre line it’s refreshing to see it ridden accurately, smoothly and confidently. It really isn’t hard to stand out as deserving a higher mark, so take the opp...

A Turn up the centre line.
A Turn up the centre line. Like with riding a corner deep, turning up the centre line well is very important and should be ridden in exactly the same way. When I see this executed well it really stands out from the crowd and has already put me on a higher mark mentally before the final halt. I look ...
