Ben Maher wins individual GOLD in Tokyo!
It was always a pleasure seeing Ben each month back in the 1990's and now watching him become the very best in the world.
A few decades back, I had the pleasure of supplying Ben Maher with 'equine essentials' back in the 1990s when he was a very young man. Every month I'd pop into his incredible pad in Elsenham and sometimes catch him schooling a horse or two. The attention to detail was phenomenal. It seemed to me that he mainly worked on the quality of the canter and the elasticity through the body. He'd be able to pin-point exactly where he'd take off and land, for memory he put a fiver on the floor and punched it with his hind hoofs on take off!!
Like every top equine sportman, Ben had a natural way with horses, everything seemed effortless. I often stood in awe at the entrance of his school trying to take in what was going through his brain in his training. Even back then it was very clear to me he was going to make it to the very top of the game.
Well here we are again, this time in Tokyo, he didn't disappoint. With Explosion under him, no one else had a chance!! To me, for many, you are a legend Mr Ben Maher!!
